Apple has reported a 78 percent increase in profits, boosted by strong Christmas sales of the iPod. Their net proft for the first quarter rose to $1bn, from $565m a year earlier. They also sold 1.6 million computers and more than 21 million iPods in the first quarter, and shares have also risen 5 percent.
